India faced a tough defeat against Sri Lanka by 32 runs in the second ODI at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 4. Chasing a target of 241 runs, India had a promising start as Rohit Sharma impressed the crowd with a fiery 64 off 44 balls. India were 97 for 1 in 13.2 overs when Rohit got out, and the team struggled after his dismissal.
Rohit Sharma’s innings made a slow track look easy, but his departure led to a collapse. Despite needing only 144 runs from 219 balls with nine wickets in hand, India managed just 64 runs in almost 29 overs and lost all their wickets. Shubman Gill supported Rohit with 35 off 44, and Axar Patel added a significant 44 runs.
Rohit stressed the importance of playing consistent cricket. “When you lose a game, everything hurts. It’s not just about those 10 overs. You have to play consistent cricket, and we failed to do that today. Little disappointed, but these things happen. You have to adapt to what’s in front of you,” Rohit said, as quoted by RCB’s official website.
Rohit also highlighted the risk-taking nature of his batting. “With left-right, we felt it’ll be easier to rotate strike. Credit to Jeffrey, he got six wickets. The reason I got 65 is because of the way I batted. When I am batting like that, there’s a lot of risks taken. If you don’t cross the line, you always feel disappointed,” he added.
India will face Sri Lanka in the third ODI at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 7. Sri Lanka leads the series 1-0, and if they win the final ODI, they will make history by defeating India in an ODI series for the first time since 1997. If India wins, they will level the series.
This upcoming match is crucial for both teams, and fans are eagerly awaiting the outcome.
