Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Zahid praised Babar Azam’s batting skills, calling him the most skillful batsman in the world.
In a conversation on Basit Ali’s YouTube channel, Zahid talked about Babar’s great technique but noted that Steve Smith and Joe Root perform better and have more game intelligence. He ranked Smith first, Root second, and Babar third, appreciating Babar’s skills but highlighting the strategic insight of Smith and Root.
“If you ask me skill-wise, it is Babar Azam. Babar has the best technique among all batters. However, when we talk about performances and the knowledge of batting, Joe Root and Steve Smith are on another level. They don’t have the kind of ability that Babar has, but they are more clever when it comes to game assessment. I would rank Steve Smith at one, Joe Root at second, and then Babar Azam,” Zahid said.
Babar Azam is a top scorer in all cricket formats in recent years. He has been a key player for his team but has faced some challenges lately.
Zahid also shared his views on other top players. He mentioned that Rohit Sharma is currently a better batter than Virat Kohli and compared Rohit’s style to that of Inzamam-ul-Haq.
“Nobody can deny Virat Kohli. However, I’d rate Rohit Sharma higher than Kohli. Rohit is the best batsman in the world at present. He is very courageous against fast bowlers. He is a gifted player. He picks the length very quickly, like how Inzamam-ul-Haq used to do,” Zahid concluded.
Zahid’s insights provide a view into the skills and strategies of some of the world’s best batsmen, highlighting the unique strengths each player brings to the game.
