India, the strong favorites entering the series, suffered a 2-0 defeat against Sri Lanka in the ODI series. This marked the first time in 27 years that India lost a bilateral ODI series to Sri Lanka.

India started the series with high expectations, despite playing away from home and not being at full strength. They drew the first match, lost the second, and were thoroughly outplayed in the final game.

Rohit Sharma’s Response

Following the series defeat, questions arose about India’s approach and possible complacency. During the presentation ceremony, Rohit Sharma firmly dismissed these claims.

No, it’s a joke. When you’re playing for India, there’s no complacency,” said Rohit. “We have to give credit where credit is due. Sri Lanka played better than us. We looked at the conditions, wanted to take pace off the ball, and that’s why we went with our combination.

Rohit acknowledged that India didn’t play their best cricket throughout the series. “All in all, we didn’t play good cricket through the series, and that is why we stand here. There were a few positives too. How the spinners bowled, and some of the batters in the middle as well. We lost the series, and I feel there are a lot of areas we need to look at rather than the positives.”
