Rohit Sharma Becomes First Indian to Hit 300 Sixes as ODI Opener

Rohit Sharma made history in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. He became the first Indian to hit 300 sixes as an ODI opener. The match was held at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium.

Sharma, who led India to win the T20 World Cup in 2024, played a brilliant inning. He scored 64 runs off 44 balls. His knock included five fours and four sixes.

With these sixes, Sharma reached 302 sixes in 177 ODIs. He is the second batter overall to achieve this milestone. Only Chris Gayle of the West Indies has more sixes as an opener, with 328 sixes in 280 matches.

Chasing a target of 241 runs, India started strong. Sharma and Shubman Gill added 97 runs for the first wicket. However, India was bowled out for 208 runs in 42.2 overs. Jeffrey Vandersay took 6 wickets for 33 runs, leading Sri Lanka to victory.

During his innings, Sharma also surpassed Rahul Dravid in the list of most ODI runs by an Indian batter. Sharma now has 10,831 runs in ODIs. Only Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Sourav Ganguly have more runs than him.

Despite the loss, Sharma’s achievement is a proud moment for Indian cricket. His ability to hit sixes and score runs consistently makes him one of the best openers in the world. Fans look forward to seeing more records from him in the future.
